Refugee schools in western Assam

In western Assam, 15 schools for refugee children have been set up as a bridging school to prepare the children for regular schooling. The project approach builds on the self-contribution of the village communities. Childaid Network finances the teachers, their further training, initial equipment for the schools with learning and teaching materials.

In the summer of 2014, Childaid’s project partner Don Bosco Institute successfully set up 15 new refugee schools in the Kokrajhar district. This is the district that has suffered most from violent conflicts between Bodos, Sanhals and Muslims over the past two decades.

For the 15 new schools, 30 teachers from the villages were selected, trained and hired. A cluster coordinator visits the sites regularly.
