Accompanied painting, Hügelsheim

In everyday life, we experience that many children in Hügelsheim are already mentally stressed at an early age. There can be many reasons for this. Some of the children suffer from the family circumstances in which they live, e.g. through neglect or violence, and have no way of expressing themselves and confiding in someone. Refugee children have also often had traumatic experiences that they are not yet able to come to terms with (also due to language barriers). At the same time, they should arrive in their “new home” and integrate. Accompanied painting provides support for these children.

This project is carried out by Bruni Gassenschmidt. Over time, the relationship of trust with the painting therapist strengthens. The children experience a safe place where their experiences and feelings are given space. By being seen, heard and understood with their problems, they can begin to process what they have experienced. In addition to dealing with their problems and traumas, the children are given the opportunity to express their wishes and experience that they can be effective. It is not only in the painting process that they expand their creativity.

Accompanied painting is an enrichment for life, because it promotes self-efficacy and strengthens the children’s personality.

There are many things that place a heavy burden on children, such as flight, feelings of guilt, separation, bullying, war, grief and illness.

Thanks to the Schöck-Familien-Stiftung, children in Hügelsheim have had and still have the opportunity to process their fears, feelings and worries through painting and to be strengthened for their lives.

In 2023/2024, 18 disadvantaged children were able to take advantage of this offer.

There are always 6 children painting in a small group
