Home for Dalit girls, Andhra Pradesh

The orphanage is one of Paul Rathmann’s largest projects. He himself grew up in poverty as an “untouchable”. He received a good education in a missionary dormitory, which for him meant a way out of poverty. He decided in his life to help oppressed, weaker people.

The orphanage in Pichatur enables orphaned, destitute, outcast “untouchable” girls to overcome their hopelessness, poverty and exploitation. They should grow into valued members of society. The orphanage offers the children a home, and their mental and physical abilities are encouraged. The orphanage offers a high quality of education thanks to very dedicated teachers. There are pedal sewing machines in the house and the children can learn the tailoring trade. Personal development courses are also offered.

The Schöck Family Foundation has so far financed the purchase of bedsteads and sewing machines, among other things.
