Organic school gardens – empowering youth through gardening, Tanzania

Around 160 schoolchildren were able to gain practical knowledge about biologically sustainable cultivation methods in their newly created school gardens. Four schools took part in the Youth Empowerment through Gardening (YEG) project. The interest of the other students and the immediate environment was also aroused.

The opportunity is given to earn one’s own living through successful agriculture and the cultivation of healthy food contributes to a balanced diet for the school children.

Young people who are interested in organic farming become “young ambassadors” and raise awareness of this topic. In this respect, these young people are the driving force for a successful agricultural paradigm shift in order to ensure appropriate and healthy nutrition for future generations.
