The project aims to provide 350 children from educationally disadvantaged families in 6 villages of the Gram Panchayats Nayabastiya and Gacha Akharpur in the 24 North Parganas district of West Bengal with access to education up to the end of the 8th grade and to promote their age-appropriate physical and mental development.
In centers, these children receive specially designed remedial lessons to make up for learning deficits in state schools. Their parents often have no school-leaving qualifications themselves, are often illiterate and work hard as day laborers in agriculture or in brickworks to feed the family. Without support, many children drop out of school early and become child laborers.
Camps, workshops and offers in community libraries are aimed at all children in the villages to give them a love of learning and reading. Through awareness-raising measures, all villagers learn to appreciate the value of education and advocate for the protection of children’s rights and the age-appropriate development of children.
