The “Bbanga Project” on the Ssese Islands in Lake Victoria, Uganda, is committed to the holistic empowerment of women in fishing villages, among other things. The focus of the project is to make women economically independent by promoting education and health, improving sexual and reproductive rights and sustainable agriculture. The focus is on measures in the fishing village of Bugoma in the west of the main island of Bugala, where there are considerable socio-economic challenges. Through awareness-raising, literacy, vocational training, access to land and agricultural training, women are empowered to sustainably improve their living conditions. The involvement of men and boys in the project also promotes gender equality.
