Climbing project

Climbing as a path to self-confidence and community. Since 2011, the project has been offering young people the opportunity to strengthen their personality, build confidence and gain new perspectives. In the climbing hall of the German Alpine Club in Baden-Oos, participants not only learn the technique of climbing, but also the importance of teamwork, responsibility and mutual support.

After an introductory course in which knots, safety techniques and basic climbing terms are taught, the young people venture onto the climbing wall. They grow through the challenges, help each other and experience the sport as a unifying element. “Our rope hanging project promotes the young people’s personalities and strengthens their self-confidence and sense of responsibility,” explains Peter Rettig from the Youth Migration Service. Girls in particular receive targeted support to give them courage and strength.

The project brings together young people from different countries. They experience integration and peaceful coexistence, in which cultural differences fade into the background. “Everyone is equal when it comes to climbing,” emphasizes volunteer Eduard Schwindt, who knows from his own experience how important support is when arriving in a new country.

The rope hanging project is made possible by the financial support of Caritasverband, the town of Rastatt and the Schöck-Familien-Stiftung. A small personal contribution makes the offer accessible to many young people. In addition to sporting activity, the participants experience joy, strengthen their concentration and develop motivation that also accompanies them in everyday life.

The project shows how sport can build bridges and promote community.
