The district of Rautahat, located in the central region, has a comparatively high proportion of Dalits and marginalized ethnic groups and the lowest literacy rate of all districts in Nepal. The schools in the district are extremely overcrowded, with over 100 pupils per classroom. It is therefore one of the districts with the greatest need for support.
Pokharia is one of the most remote villages in Rautahat and all the children in the area come here as it has the only school in the area. The lack of space in the Shree Millat elementary school was therefore particularly bad: 529 children and their nine teachers only had to share four classrooms. Meaningful lessons were hardly possible.
Chay Ya therefore decided to extend the school building and add four new classrooms. The aim is not only to increase the quality of teaching, but also to improve pupil attendance. In future, all children here should have the chance to successfully complete at least elementary school.
The Paroha Municipality bears 50% of the construction costs and all subsequent costs.
