Tailoring and Fashion Design Vocational School in Western Cameroon

Tailoring and textile production are traditionally important in Foumban, western Cameroon. However, there was no vocational school for this area. Therefore, a first dual training center for tailoring and fashion design for up to 200 trainees was built and opened here. The aim was and is to improve vocational training with a special focus on promoting equal opportunities. Girls in particular do not always have the opportunity to continue attending school. School fees are usually only paid by the families for the boys, who are given preference in school and vocational training. Here at the vocational school in Foumban, the girls now have the opportunity for certification and state recognition, which gives them legal and financial security. Up to 80 young people and young adults can take up a two-year training course every year. The close cooperation with local companies and the state employment agency promotes practical orientation with regard to the demand of the regional labor market.

The Schöck Family Foundation financed the purchase of furniture and sewing machines.
