The aim of the project is to reduce child labour in Nepal, starting with the bricks industry in Southern Nepal.
Child labour in brick factories is still widespread in Madhesh. The children are exposed to dust, chemicals and flames for hours on end and have to carry heavy loads instead of going to school.
Since 2021, the organisation Our Sansar has been investigating cases of children working in the numerous brick factories there.
After extensive discussions with the families, the pilot project was launched in 2022.
The project comprises 2-year batches of approximately 90 children. The children will receive education (transition classes, enrolment into regular school and extra tuition classes), the parents will receive literacy, business literacy and vocational training, and then support to set up their own businesses.
Our Sansar works very closely with whole communities and provides training to ensure a holistic approach and find effective ways to reduce child labour.
