In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, only about 4% of the population has access to clean drinking water. Many people, especially children, often suffer from infectious diseases. Around 500,000 children under the age of 5 die from it every year. Women and children are traditionally responsible for fetching water. On their long walks to the water points, they are repeatedly attacked, robbed and raped. Clean water is the basis for food security, health, education, work and protection from violence. Clean drinking water near your own home is the basis for independent development.<\/p>\n

With the construction of wells, well builders and well keepers are trained. Jobs are created by independent small entrepreneurs. The recipe for success lies in the simple, particularly sustainable hand drilling method<\/a> .<\/p>\n

A basic course to become a well construction assistant lasts 6 months at the new well construction vocational school in Kikwit.<\/p>\n
