Vintage car workshop – perspectives for young long-term unemployed and school-tired young people

Riverside Ortenau eV was founded in 2007 in Kehl am Rhein.
Young people kept coming to a group of friends who worked together to restore their vintage cars to help out.
“The young people are strengthened in their personality with us, experience themselves as an important part of a community, receive the support they need and gain insights into important areas relating to motor vehicles.
We go new, innovative and unique ways of schooling and training. Under pedagogical, but also professional guidance, the young people can make a wide range of professionally relevant experiences.
We see ourselves as a “provider of opportunities” and a professional partner when it comes to car painting technology.
The aim of the work, which has meanwhile been recognized in many ways, is to integrate the young people into the world of work in a work environment that interests them and with which they can identify.”

“Show your colors” – painting classic cars

This project offers unemployed young people from the Ortenau district spaces and opportunities in which they can develop themselves and their abilities in a protected environment. The approach of “Show Your Color” is to integrate young people into a working group that carries out the restoration of vintage cars.

In this workshop, the participants can practically train correct behavior in relation to safety, cleanliness and order. After professional instruction in the hand machines, the young people carry out minor grinding, assembly and painting work, thereby increasing their stamina and self-esteem.

The young people are also looked after in a socio-pedagogical manner and supported in their individual living situation. In schools, they receive individually tailored learning opportunities with the aim of arousing the joy of learning.

The goal of this job-oriented long-term internship is to gain an apprenticeship maturity.

Since September 2010, Riverside Ortenau e.V. has been offering its own in-company training positions for vehicle painters for individual participants (who are technically and practically interested, but still need social and educational support).
